The Grammar School Board of Trustees met at TGS for their monthly board meeting on Tuesday, October 26th at 6 p.m.
Kate Aldrich from Pieciak and Company presented the results of their annual audit of TGS’ finances and record keeping. Their thorough inspection showed, once again, that our Business Office does a great job of ensuring that The Grammar School’s financial matters are dealt with in a professional and secure manner.
William Chambers presented a review of our Summer Camp structure and performance, including suggestions and ideas for improvements.
The Medieval Faire was a record breaking success and the Ken Burns event kicked off our 50th Anniversary celebrations with a great turnout and publicity for TGS.
Head of School and Administrative Reports were given. Among these there was discussion of:
- ADA grant writing
- Review of the TGS Master Plan Project and areas for improvement
- This year’s Annual Fund goal set at $100,000
The Board of Trustees scheduled their annual retreat for January, 2011 with a focus on continued board member education.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:29 p.m.

The Business Office guided the board through a line item review of the TGS Annual Budget.
The Director of Admissions, Financial Aid and Marketing reviewed statistics regarding the 2009/2010 admissions and financial aid season and the make up of our student body and families.
The Annual Fund drive officially kicks off in October.
Updates on An Evening with Ken Burns and the Medieval Faire events were given.
Dick Donovan has returned to drive the bus again this year.
The Committee on Trustees continues to look for someone to fill the Treasurer position.
The Finance Committee has been reviewing the budget, salary scale and elements of a five year financial plan with Deb's assistance.

New Trustees Marcia Leader, Peter Howe and Wendy Brennan were welcomed to the Grammar School Board of Trustees. Trustees terms are three years long with the possibility of recommitting for a second term on completion of the first.
The Head of School reviewed his report and compliments were given to all staff and faculty who worked hard over the summer to move classrooms and complete general improvements.
The Business Office gave and update on the 2009/2010 budget.
The new TGS Trustees section of our website was unveiled.
The 50th anniversary of TGS was discussed and plans for some of the events to celebrate it.
Work on the school's water delivery system has been completed.
Our Fall Work Day was well attended and successful.
The Finance Committee welcomed new member John Leader.
Buildings and Grounds updated the board on some of the accessibility upgrades that took place over the summer.
The Policies and Personnel Committee has begun preliminary work on a complete review of our manuals and handbooks.
With the start of our 50th year there was discussion on how to help with a vigorous Annual Fund drive.

While the Board of Trustees was not scheduled to meet as a group during the month of July, administrative reports and a general update of what has been occurring over the summer was sent to each board member.
These included:
- The Head of School Report that covered ideas on how we should pursue filling the Director of Development position for the coming year, thoughts on the 50th anniversary of TGS, summer renovations (including some accessibility changes), summer camps review and details of teachers moving to new positions and new faces.
- The Director of Transportation and Maintenance report outlining the work on the library, cleaning of floors, several renovation projects, the water project and bus maintenance.
- The Business Office report on our budget for 2009/2010 and the Finance Committee.
- Development Office updates regarding grant applications, Roots and Wings, 50th events and a departing note from Mark.
- The Communications Office report on TGS'Website, Alumni and the 50th, Sports and Student Reports.
- Director of Admissions, Financial Aid and Marketing reported on new enrollment numbers and financial aid status
